Review It Yourself - (1:10) 25 December 2024: Defend It Yourself 22: Star Trek Generations (1994) with Dmitry from ‘The Psych Effect Podcast' [great conversation between the two of them about how Star Trek isn’t the same now as it used to be, and how the Orville is more like Star Trek of times gone by, which reminds me that I’ve really need to watch that series! Questionable story and physics. Creating a story by necessity to allow two captains who are 100 years apart to come together. The same ship that was in the introduction sequence for Star Trek generations was used again as the ship, the interceptor in the pirates of the Caribbean films. A change in the character of Picard after the series. A rock on the grave and then get the f*** out of there!]

StarDate - (0:02) 12 February 2024: *Sunstones - The Vikings liked to see the world. For a couple of centuries, they plied northern oceans, exploring much of Europe, establishing colonies in Greenland, and even reaching North America. They did so with a good sense of the natural world, including the sky. But they might’ve had a little help. They might have pinpointed the Sun’s position through fog and light cloud cover using crystals — sunstones. / Sunstones are mentioned in the Norse Sagas — accounts written a couple of centuries after the peak of Viking exploration. No one has found such a stone in any Viking sites. But scientists have explored the possibility that ancient navigators could have used them. And some of the results suggest that it’s plausible…

StarDate - (0:02) 13 February 2024: *Filling in the Gaps - Astronomers use many techniques to find planets in other star systems. One of those is looking where there doesn’t appear to be anything — wide gaps in disks of dust around young stars. Most of these stars are only a few million years old — billions of years younger than the Sun. They’re encircled by cold dust — raw materials for making planets. / The disks are easy targets for ALMA — an array of telescopes in Chile that studies a form of radio waves. It sees the disks in good detail. And most of the disks have wide gaps — zones with very little dust. Such regions could have been cleared out by the gravity of orbiting planets. So astronomers are trying to find those planets…

StarDate - (0:02) 14 February 2024: *Moon and Jupiter - The average depth of the oceans on Earth is a little more than two miles. And the greatest depth is about seven miles. But that’s little more than a big puddle compared to the ocean on Ganymede, the biggest moon in the solar system. Its ocean appears to be about 60 miles deep. And it covers the entire moon. That means that Ganymede’s ocean probably contains several times as much water as all of Earth’s oceans combined. Ganymede is the largest moon of Jupiter, the largest planet. It’s almost 3300 miles in diameter — bigger than the planet Mercury…
