  Sunday August 10th 2025 -  I got in from the Saturday night shift at twenty past five, and drifted to sleep a little after six in the morning.  A minute or so after ten in the morning, I woke up for the toilet and looked at my phone. I noticed that I had missed phone calls and messages from my aunties Carol and Ann, as well as a fairly recent message from my younger brother James. They were all asking me to contact them.  I had a feeling that I knew what it was, but I didn’t want to believe it. I messaged my younger brother James, who then rang to tell me that Mum had passed away sometime around 7:30 in the morning.  I messaged someone at work about it, who let a Director know. I misunderstood a message telling me to talk to Wayne in the office on the Monday morning, so got ready for work at the usual time, and showed up at the office at 4:40pm for the five o’clock start, to find that Andy had come in to cover for me, and was told that I was also covered for t...

Time off - Tue 8 to Wed 9 July 2025

  Strangely I’m going to start this with my Monday night at work. I was training up a newbie, so I wasn’t able to listen to an podcasts while at work, which I mention in a blogpost about the week’s listening.  On Tuesday I got home for about nine in the morning, and had a quick half an hour or so before getting up at twenty to eleven in the morning, because there was an appointment to take Louise to.  I took my girl to see a private ear specialist, who cleared the wax from her ears, that was lodged hard against the eardrum I think. The NHS doctor’s thought was that the wax had caused an imbalance, but it was in fact that her hearing is very different from one ear to another.  Luckily the tablets that the doctor had given Louise were helping to make up for the imbalance, which allowed her to have a semblance of life, quite literally.  It was a worthwhile appointment, and I’m glad that it happened, although I wasn’t a fan of only getting about thirty minutes of sl...
