Saturday Night Notes

Saturday February the 27th 2021

After getting in from work, it took a couple of hours for me to fall asleep, so I got less sleep than I would like to have had.

Work was busy, and I think that I was pushing myself podcast wise, because there were quite a few hours worth in the list thinking back.

Phase Zero - Brandon Davis & Jamie Jirak are joined by Adam Barnard. Which Avenger would Adam be the assistant to? Spider-Man 3 title revealed. Tom Holland taking a break after Spiderman 3Sony & Disneyongoing deal, Kevin Feige hinting that characters previously in the Netflix deal WILL be utilised in the MCU, the Russo brothers returning to do another superhero film. Deadpool 3 is the only R rated film that Marvel are working on, so what does that mean for the future Blade film? Wandavision- I actually think that the final episode needs to be longer to get it all in. #BaddieAgatha @50:50 - Jim Viscardi suddenly joins the show.

2 Legs - Tom & Andy chatting with Paul Salley about the forthcoming biography Little Wing: The Jimmy McCulloch Story. I’m so glad that Paul is bringing out a book that dispels a lot of myths, and gives respect to Jimmy

Paul Or Nothing - Sam looking at the London Town album with Maurice Bursztynski (“the Australian Joe Rogan”). Sam - “far too much time spent fannying around”.

Robby The Robot’s Waiting - Space Sweepers, which they compare to both Firefly and ElysiumDave has also been catching up with quite a few things on Disney+Clone Wars, and much more. Rich mentions the great Pixar shorts that I too have been loving! The allegations about Joss WhedonGina Carano getting fired from The Mandalorian for things she said. They followed this with a long in-depth look at the 2000 and something film Spider-Man 2 with journalist & author Joe McCabeChristopher Plummer’s passing. Two Buck Rogersmovies being worked on. Like Dave & Joe, I too want cameos from Gil Gerard & Erin GrayRian Johnson’s Star Wars trilogy is apparently still on! New tv anthology from Mike Flanagan. Video game The Last Of Usbeing adapted to a tv series starring Pedro Pascal. Remake of The Man Who Fell To Earth into a tv series. War Machine to appear in Falcon and the Winter soldierFinn Jones has said where the third season of iron fist would’ve gone, if it hadn’t have been cancelled. Truth Seekers cancelled by NetflixGeorge R R Martin half way through writing next Game of Thrones book.

Frame By Frame - the song I Talk To The Wind. Recorded 29th of July 1969, written in 1968 by Ian McDonaldand Peter Sinfield, which they brought to Giles, Giles & Fripp, who did record a formative version with McDonald & Julie Dyble. Delicate song to follow 21st Century Schizoid Man on the album, which talks about nobody paying attention to you. Ryan disagrees very much with people calling Greg Lake’s bass playing as basic. I agree. He’s a great bassist. Question to ask them - Avery mentioned them covering ITCOTCK when she saw them in 2017, which Ryan said that he didn’t think that as it wasn’t on the live album Meltdown. My question is maybe it wasn’t on the album because it was written by Ian McDonald without Robert Fripp? Royalties issue? The same reason perhaps why they never played this song live?

Yes Music Podcast - 19b. What Tony Kaye Did Next  pt2. Hosted by Kevin & Mike. Continuing looking at his work outside of Yes, including the Album Pigs & PyramidsMike mentions Type O Negative covering Black Sabbath

Betamax Video Club - This time they’re discussing the film The Dead Zone. Hosted by Richard Nelson with guest Paul Jenkins. Written by Stephen King, directed by David Cronenberg, and starring Christopher Walken. So the character Johnny Smith shows that she is a gentleman by declining the advances of Sarah(Brooke Adams, real life wife of actor Tony Shalhoub), and then has an accident on the way home very hit or something to do with a milk truck. Host Richard then says after describing this that’s what happens when you say no, there’s the metaphor of “the milk truck spilling its load!” An interesting personal side note- when me and Louise first talked to each other all those years ago, Louise was reading the novelisation of this, which I asked her about, and that’s what got us talking as far as I can remember. Louise might remember better than me? I’ve read Christine by Stephen King. They finished the show off by playing what was number one when this film came out, which in the UK was Pipes Of Peace by Paul McCartney

Take care and stay safe.
