The Blurb -

So, hopefully you remember from my writing about Monday that I finished the shift on Tuesday morning, and couldn’t go to sleep, because we had a viewing on Tuesday morning elsewhere.

We got ready…

Well I got off my tired arse eventually, had a bath, and got ready. We left a little before ten and made it there for about five to eleven, for an 11am viewing. Phew!

Straight away Louise loved the area, and liked the look of the outside. When the estate agent turned up, she was very nice (I know, that’s part of their job, except for the guy a fortnight earlier who just opened the door and left us to walk around on our own).

It was a lovely experience going around, albeit with a couple of bits (one green painted wall in one bedroom, solid hot plates on the cooker, and not quite as spacious as I was thinking about).

However, they sold us on it, and I can see us living there happily.

There is room for everything, but I will always worry that some see clutter in other’s comfortable.

We said yes, and the ball has started rolling… ⚽️

We were there for what seemed like a good while, taking in the two bedroom property, that has two reception rooms (they will be living and dining rooms), and an outhouse, plus a garden at last.

Even when I was renting a house many moons ago, that didn’t have a garden. This will make a change, although it does mean that I’ve had no experience with having to look after a garden. A difficult thing with these hours, but also a much longer journey now to work and back, so now I have the added stress of money for fuel, as well as a lot more rent to pay.

The media is pushing the question of why people want more money for the jobs they do, but don’t realise from their privileged wage of how difficult it is finding money just to live.

Norman Tebbitt spoke in the eighties and nineties about how people should get on their bikes for work, meaning to travel for work, but the travel costs money, and I wouldn’t cycle all of those miles for 13 hour shifts.

After the viewing we went to the retail park in Mansfield again, where we had coffee, before returning home, getting back at around a quarter to three. I think at around 5pm we both went for a quick nap, and woke up at about 7:30pm. We chatted for a long while regarding what we could have for dinner, with me getting irritated since I had shows booked at 9pm and 11pm.

A list was made for shopping, and I went around to get some bits.

At 9pm I started recording a show with the three presenters of Robby The Robot’s Waiting, which was actually a bit of a dream for me.

All three presenters had worked on the Science Fiction magazine SFX, a magazine that I had read every issue of since it started in 1995, which is 26 years ago.

Dave Bradley & Rich Edwards had both been editors of the magazine, and still do some work for the magazine. Tanavi Patel has been working for four years I think on the magazine.

As Dave pointed out, it’s a fascinating truth that they have only had five editors in those 26 years, including the fourth head that almost was in Dave Golder.

That would have been interesting with two Dave’s on the show.

A little before eleven I contacted the show that was following, to let them know that we were running long on the Robby show, which made me decide to make a change when it came to block booking shows again.

Under better circumstances I could easily have carried on chatting with Dave, Rich & Tanavi, possibly creating a bonus episode that I had an idea for that was going to be based on me asking for their five favourite genre based media.

At 11:15 I started the next show that was a group chat with Tom Hunyady from 2 Legs: A Paul McCartney Podcast and Talk More Talk: A Solo Beatles Podcast, Matthew DeSantis from The Win Place Show and From The Swamp To The Swamp, Rob from Stew World Order, and Amy from The Sip List.

The intention was to talk about the subject of classic films, which invariably meant going into tangents about classic television, Stephen King, horror films, directors, and so many other things.

Rob had to sign out at 20 minutes past midnight (my time), with the rest of going on for another hour and twenty minutes! Rob had an episode of his own show to record at 12:30.

That was another fun episode, and the first time I had introduced Louise on the show as a full on pre-arranged participant.

I can’t remember what we did afterwards, but we went to bed at about 4am.

  1. Thanks for having us on the podcast Marv! I'd be happy to come back again some time in the future and contribute to a bonus episode about our favourite genre media. https://www.robbyscifi.com/
