The Pod Files - Friday March 24 2023

Dreadful night shift, where I was feeling almost the entire night and, as I write this now on the Saturday afternoon, I’m still not feeling that great.

A new site to check on, which needed a bit of attention as it was new. A door unlocked that needed sorting, having to work out the layout of the place, and all of that. The usual teething problems, especially of a site that came on so late that there was no way to do a risk assessment or see what’s there.

I had an absolutely terrible headache for a lot of the night, making me dizzy, as well as a sore throat, and some breathing issues.

Unfortunately, as I’ve mentioned before, I work for a bunch of arseholes who don’t know how to organise their man power properly. This means that with Ken being off sick this weekend, there would be no way to cover me.

Hence why I worked with terrible covid, hmm, last Summer. Because they were down to a single driver doing all three mobile runs.

I still got told off for standing on an upright piano on a site to reach window controls that were on the wall ten feet up. They’re bloody lucky I showed up at all! Ungrateful bastards!

Anyway, I still don’t feel great, but have to go in because of there being no one else available.

In December we were told that we would get a “handsome pay rise” in January. It’s now March, and we haven’t had the pay rise. I think they only said tgst because me and Matt had applied for better paid jobs closer to home. Manipulation and deception. Watch It Security Services Limited.

Oh, and you know why I had to come in with covid because of manpower issues…

It’s because one driver had been moved from nights to days to cover the usual weekend day man who had been covering the office from Monday to Friday for a couple of weeks while the office staff were off with covid. #irony

The ‘casts -

A Breath Of Fresh Air - (0:52) March 24 2023: Sandy chats with the Brazilian music legend that is Sergio Méndez. I actually have a connection with Sergio. In 2013 I received a private message on a file sharing website that I use (shout out to Freesound), with the message telling me that some percussion I played on one of the files had been used for a soccer/football song, which was the song featured in this episode - One Nation.

The Wind - (0:50) season 1 episode 2: December 1 2020: “Frontier Music - Western Films as America’s origin story, and why they sound the way they do. Featuring Gary Farmer, Rion Amilcar Scott, Jeff Grace and Kathryn Kalinak. In this episode we investigate western film scores from early westerns and singing cowboys (Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Herb Jeffries) to the John Ford Era (Tiomkin, Hageman, Steiner and Bernstein) to Ennio Morricone to Neil Young's score for Dead Man and beyond.”  A fascinating look into the history of western films, with their music being the main subject. Big leaps in melody. Diagenic music. Akira Kurosawa films that westerns were based on. What a superb show. It’s a great in-depth study.
