The Pod Files - Sunday May 21 2023

Sunday night was another busy one at work, so once more I didn’t listen to what I had intended to, with a whole slew of shows left in the feed to catch up on.

The ‘casts -

(Notes spoken to Siri, and edited later if I remember)

Omega Star 7 - (0:26) Season 1, Episode 40: 26 July 2022: Threads of Fate “Moxie hunts down an old friend.”

Literally! with Rob Lowe - (1:02) 16 July 2020: Rob chats with actor/writer/producer

Keegan-Michael Key. Hahaha, all of the Danny Glover anecdotes. “Shrimpshamp Reduction.” Chilli dogs or chilli pops? Acting opposite Meryl Streep. New TV show Game On. NFL a player names.

Daily Dad Jokes - (0:08) 17 May 2023

Making Tarantino - trailer for a show where the presenters look at films that Quentin Tarantino recommends, to see what they think. And how they might have shaped who Quentin is as a filmmaker. I think they need one of the Reelblend guys on there to talk about one of the films at least.

Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus - (0:56) Season 1, Episode 1: April 11 2023: starts with Julia reading a quote that she had in her school yearbook from the film Julia starring Jane Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave that Julia herself loves. After going down a rabbit hole about Jane Fonda, she found out about stuff that Jane has gone through which  made her decide that she needs to speak to these older women who have stuff to talk about. Jane is 85, and I think she’s as cool as f***. Jane has been watching Veep, and her grandchildren have been watching early episodes of Seinfeld. Jane reads a great quote from TS Eliot that she has used in her own published memoirs. Jane looks at life as being in three acts which are firstly up to the age of 30, then from 30 to 60, and then the third and final act. She then starts to offer advice for people in each act, before post-recording Julia cuts in to point out about a cyclone cutting their internet connection for the call. It was still recording them but neither could hear each other. Julia’s intruder alarm was sounding - yes, because the power going off might be seen by the system as a “trip”. Discussion between Producer Rachel and Jane. Break followed by them doing a follow up recording for the rest. “ i’ve got a fake knee, a fake shoulder, and even a fake thumb!“ She says that she is sorry that she had plastic surgery. They both talk about reminiscences of Anne Bancroft. LOL, because of Grace and Frankie, Jane has had gifts from fans of vibrators, which leads to Julia asking Jane which one is her favourite. Ambition and career choices. Losing out on a role in the film splendour, directed by Ilia Kazan, to Natalie Wood because Jane said that she was not ambitious. Katherine Hepburn. “Never get soggy.” “You’ll never catch me now!” Break. The great activism. “No is a complete sentence!” After the chat ends with Jane, Julia rings her mum Judy.

You Run Podcast, Horror Movie Reviews - (0:24) May 30 2021: I must look up their Instagram page at home of Halloween. At present the Instagram app doesn’t seem to be working (POST CUT IN - this is when Instagram went down for a long time). Maybe they should make sure that their own site works before they come out with a competition for Twitter. The whole thing with this show is that the listeners suggest what film is reviewed each week, with this episode being about a film I watched at the cinema when it came out, in the form of Candyman from 1992, starring the wonderful Tony Todd. Film trailer followed by a description. Adverts. Film facts. After the film fact he reads three word reviews by listeners. shout out to MadmanAudio. Talk of the then upcoming reboot.

The Gerry Anderson Podcast - (0:01) 21 May 2023: teaser for pod 258

The Slowdown - episode 880: 18 May 2023: Today’s poem is The Figure of a Man Being Swallowed by a Fish by Joshua Weiner.

Wikipedia Featured Article of the Day - (0:02) 19 April 2023: Logan (novel)

Audio Poem of the Day - (0:01) episode: May 2023: If Suddenly by Anu Lakhan

Daily Shower Thoughts - (0:06) 12 May 2023

Reelblend - (1:23) episode 262: 19 May 2023: Sean and Kev, with producer Gabe covering for Jake being away. Do you know in the beginning of the show, before they even introduce who is who, they mention about James Mangold making the new Indiana Jones film, and as much as I’m thinking that it will be interesting to watch, I do wonder if it will have the same Saturday morning cliffhanger style that the originals had, which were written by George Lucas, and directed by Steven Spielberg. Just a wonder. I’m sure it will be okay. Maybe? I do like what he did with Copeland and Logan though, which are two films that I remember that I watched and liked. First up is an interview with Fast X director Louis Letterier, who took over Justin Lin. Interview with Louis. Reactions to the trailer for Mission Impossible dead reckoning part one. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny clip reveal. Documentary on Apple TV Plus - Still, which is about Michael J Fox. Fast X reactions from Sean and Gabe, who have both seen it. The blendgame this time is favourite Fast and Furious film. I’m not sure, but I liked everything up until 7. I hated 8, and never saw 9. Next week is Disney live action film - one you’d like them to turn an animated film not live action.

Composer’s Datebook - (0:02) 8 May 2023: Stravinsky' "Dumbarton Oaks" Concerto

Vintage Rock Pod - (0:09) May 19 2023: Paul looks at events and celebrity birthdays from this day in history. Call Paul on purpose Easter egg mistake where he said Peter Green instead of Peter Gabriel. Do I win a prize, LOL?Today’s main topic is The release of the song sultans of swing by Dire Straits, which was released on this day in 1978. Paul plays a clip from an interview he had with original drummer pick Winters about the early days of the band, and the recording of this song.
