The ‘casts -

(Notes spoken to Siri, and edited later if I remember

(Changed tactic now where starred dialogue denotes quoting from the show’s own notes)

The Future of Our Former Democracy - Season 1 Episode 3: 9 October 2024: *From Rebellion to Republic: Ireland's Path to Partition - Revolution and electoral politics - our favorite! George and Colin discuss Ireland's tumultuous journey towards independence and the partition of Northern Ireland post-World War I, focusing on significant events like the Easter Rising of 1916 and the War of Independence. / With the help of experts, George and Colin discuss key historical milestones such as the 1918 General Election, which saw Sinn Féin's landslide victory, the eventual partition of Ireland into Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, their adoption of different electoral systems, and how those systems changes set both regions on divergent paths. The episode also dips into the complexities of naming and identity in Northern Ireland, reflecting deep-rooted political and social divides. Reviews at the time of Queen II were harsh! My favourite album. Captain Beyond.

Seaside Pod Review - 23 March 2023: Randy in the introduction calls it “B-side Pod Review”, which tells us that things are a little different this time around. Jesus Murphy and the Wigan man. Randy has been to a place called Flimflom, named after a person! Kev is away in Ottawa “for a work visit.” Kev’s adventures in eating out. Arugula in the Us and Canada is rocket to us in the U.K., from the French word Rocquet. From this general chit chat, they go into listener feedback. “You can’t beat a bit of wibbly wobbly!” They are discussing the previous song, Fun It, from the Jazz album, which was an album that they had a time limit in writing and recording time, which isn’t a good thing to force on Queen! After this they randomly pick a non-album song, with this one being the song I Guess We’re Falling Out, which is a run through recording from the album The Miracle. Weird for a run through that they’ve added a good few overdubs. Placeholder lyrics.

The Stupid History Minute - 22 November 2024: Seattle

Queenpod - episode 28: 25 May 2022: intros. News. Mention of Taylor Hawkins’ passing, which was fresh at that time. Freddie Mercury: The Final Act awards nominations. Listener feedback. The main topic of the show is side A of the album The Game. The album is the first where they changed their working technique to a more organic method, and they used synthesisers.

Queen - my absolute favourite band!

They also changed their look. The moustache effect. The Sugar Shack/The Office. The first song on side one is Play The Game, a song that I love. “Deaky’s album.” Rohan mentions the song A Human Body in passing, which was an album outtake. Song two on the album is Dragon Attack. Everyone gets their chance to do an instrument solo. Roger Taylor says that “it’s hard on the right wrist.” Question from a listener about less lead vocals by other members after 1980. Song three is Another One Bites The Dust. The bass line was inspired by Bernard Edwards line on Good Times. The Freddie and John bond. Song four is Need Your Loving Tonight, the second consecutive John Deacon writing on the album. A break to play a Hollywood Records remix of Dragon Attack. Oh my gosh, that is absolutely dreadful! I swallowed my own sick hearing that! Song five is Crazy Little Thing Called Love. One of four songs completed for the album before October of 1979, before they did a mini tour. It was to test the studio out and see what they thought. They obviously liked it because they returned in early 1980 to finish the album.

In The Lap of the Pods - 19 June 2020: Paul, Joe and David discuss the second album, Queen II. Recorded in August 1973, a month after the release of their first album. Some of the songs date back to 1969. Released late on 8 March 1974, due to the oil crisis of 1973 causing problems with manufacturing vinyl. They had been playing most of the songs live for a long time, so they had them perfectly rehearsed. John Deacon played acoustic guitar on Father To Son.

Seaside Pod Review - intro. “Kev, why are you in my studio?” “Elon Musk is a total prick!” - the whole having to pay to use polls on Twitter/X. Listener feedback about the previous episode’s song I Guess We’re Falling Out. Someone mentioned the same riff being used in the ending to Hang on In There. After this they choose the random song for this episode. Which is Back Chat from the Queen album Hot Space, written by John Deacon. After listening they give their ratings. I’ll shock now and say that if it was the live version then it would be a champion!

7 Minutes For Yourself - 23 February 2024: The ONE Habit That Will Upgrade Every Area of Your Life

Recovering Queen - Jay, Ian and Matt look at how songs by Queen were built up, re-recording the songs themselves. This time they are looking at the song White Queen (As It Began), written by Brian May. All three of these guys went to the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. They mention the performance of it from Live At The Rainbow. White Queen written inspired by The White Goddess by Rupert Graves. Old German guitar with the fretboard replace by wire to get that sitar sound, which he used again on Jealousy and Sail Away Sweet Sister. Last played live on the first gig of the News Of The World Tour in 1978, and never again until Adam Lambert was touring with them. “John Deacon is the greatest bassist of all time!” Yep.
