holidays after dark - 22 April 2025: *Unfiltered: A Conversation with CJ - For the 80th episode of Holidays After Dark, Kristin sits down with the host of The Rose Suchak Ladder podcast, CJ, to chat about the complexities of holidays, our mutual love for Christmas, and how tattoos and mental health can play a role in all of this. [when they mention people complaining about decorations going up early, or too many of them, it reminded me of years ago when I used to work on a site with a team in a cabin, and we used to decorate that for Christmas. However, and this is embarrassing to a degree, but one year we were asked by our employers to cut down on how many decorations we had put up, because it was offending somebody from another faith that didn’t celebrate Christmas. Of course you know what we did. We went out and bought more Christmas decorations, and put them up as well. I even bought a mechanical Santa that waves, which I put outside the cabin, so it could be seen on the driveway down to the site. Yes, I know that could be seen as bordering on offensive, but we celebrate it, and that’s how we saw it.]

Go with Elmo Lovano - episode 73: 18 April 2025: *Keypn Harrold: Keyon Harrold: The Trumpet Don's Amazing Journey, Miles Davis, Glasper, GRAMMYs, & The New Jazz Era - Everywhere I turn, I see Keyon Harrold. He's widely regarded as one of the greatest trumpeters alive today, pushing the new jazz generation forward with power and soul. His solo album Foreverland was GRAMMY-nominated this year for Best Alternative Jazz Album, and his resume is stacked - Jay-z, Common, Erykah Badu, Diana Ross, Mac Miller, Robert Glasper, the Count Basie Orchestra, Terrace Martin — and he played all the trumpet parts in the Miles Davis biopic Miles Ahead. Keyon is a dear friend and an incredible human being. He drops so much wisdom in this episode and truly inspired me with his words. I hope you enjoy my conversation with the great Keyon Harrold.

BirdNote Daily - 7 May 2022: *The Perfect Nestbox - Many native cavity-nesters - including this Black-capped Chickadee - will nest in an artificial birdhouse, or nestbox. Look for a nestbox that's plain wood. If the birdhouse comes with a perch, remove it. It just makes it easier for a predator bird to land and go after the eggs or young. Here's the important part: the entrance hole should be 1-1/8 inches. No more, no less, exactly 1-1/8 inches. That size will let native birds in, and keep non-natives out. Now hang the nestbox out of the way of predators. You can buy a nestbox - or build your own!
