Cinema trip reviews – Episode 12: 11 August 2022: *Come hang out with Wyatt as he reviews the 1986 Cult Classic The Hitcher starring legendary actor Rutger Hauer, C Thomas Howell, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. / While transporting a car from Chicago to San Diego, Jim Halsey picks up a hitchhiker named John Ryder, who claims to be a serial killer. After a daring escape, Jim hopes to never see Ryder again. But when he witnesses the hitchhiker murdering an entire family, Jim pursues Ryder with the help of truck-stop waitress Nash, pitting the rivals against each other in a deadly series of car chases and brutal murders. [I remember seeing The Hitcher around the time that it came out, maybe a year later when it was available on video cassette. Yes, the days of video cassettes, and thinking more about it, I got it from a video rental store that was near the marketplace in Mansfield, where I grew up. There’s a coffee house there now called Cafe Silver. I think the video rental store was called Video Magic, but that could be wrong. Let’s see if anyone reads this and responds. I enjoyed the film when it came out, and I think I’ve seen it maybe once or twice since then, and enjoyed it.]

Podcasting 2.0 in practice – Episode 30: *Is That It? - As we start to wind up this podcast course highlighting just a few Podcasting 2.0 features that I think will be most useful for podcasters and listeners, and the easiest to get to grips with and actually make work, I hope to have whet your appetite and left you wanting to know what to expect for the future in podcasting. / If you are now hooked on new podcasting technologies, let Sam Sethi give you a taste of what could be to come, with a chat about the location tag and publisher feeds. / In this episode Sam and I discuss how the location tag can help us find others in our area who share similar interests, making it easier to organize real-world meetups and foster connections beyond just the digital realm. / We also explore publisher feeds, which can streamline the discovery of new podcasts from favourite creators, ensuring that we never miss out on great content from those we already love. / Find podcasting resources, links and extra listening at Creativityfound.co.uk/podcasting / Disclaimer: Things change. Technologies improve. What is discussed in this episode is correct as of end 2024 or early 2025. [when they discuss the location element that will be coming soon to the RSS feed, I can see why some people would be excited about that. However, and some people will definitely disagree with me on this, podcasting is universal, and the fact that I have spoken to people all over the world, and I don’t just mean in the US, Australia, the UK, and other English speaking countries, but I’ve also spoken to people in Africa, India, Japan, and elsewhere. The world of podcasting is a united world to my mind, and this could potentially narrow that, maybe? I will admit that this does give people more choice though, where if they want to look for local shows about their local area, then it would be useful. If it’s a film podcast that’s made in, I don’t know, Iowa or somewhere, does it matter where it’s made, or is it the content that you should be thinking about in the search parameters? I would love feedback from people in the blog comments if possible.]

BirdNote Daily - 29 June 2022: *Cowbird Mafia - Brown-headed Cowbirds have a sneaky approach to parenthood. They lay eggs in the nests of other songbirds, and the songbird hosts often raise the cowbird chick as their own. It's called nest parasitism. But sometimes the hosts throw out the odd-looking egg. And when that happens, the cowbirds sometimes retaliate by destroying the hosts' other eggs. Scientists call this "mafia behavior," likening it to organized crime groups enforcing their demands on unwilling business partners. / More info and transcript at BirdNote.org

I must have heard it somewhere, but don’t remember doing so at the time. It was just a name that I plucked up to signify a make believe utopia, where it’s calm and still.
