Sound Strategy - season 1 episode 1: 18 April 2025: *Podcast Marketing Tides with Joe Rubin: Staying Afloat in a Sea of
Content - IN THIS EPISODE: Joe Rubin reveals the complexities of podcast growth, emphasizing the importance of strategic marketing, community networking, and finding unique ways to stand out in a crowded landscape. / GUEST: Joe Rubin, CMO and co-founder of Mowpod, shares his journey from venture capital to podcast marketing, discussing how he and his team entered the podcasting space by creating their own podcast as a learning experience. He emphasizes the importance of understanding the industry from the inside and experimenting with different marketing approaches, highlighting their transition from working with newsletters to developing podcast marketing strategies. / Joe discusses the podcast marketing landscape, noting that while podcast creation is easy, growth and sustainability are the true challenges. He showcases Mowpod's Al-powered ad creation platform and emphasizes effective monetization through targeted sponsorships and host-read ads rather than relying solely on dynamic insertion. Rubin highlights the importance of community engagement, networking, and conference attendance as crucial strategies for podcasters looking to build sustainable audiences in an increasingly crowded market. [dynamic inserted ads won’t work with me because I don’t get enough listens for Podbean to even do that for me. Me, listening to this show might surprise some people, but not others. I do like to listen to other shows that are about podcasting in the way of somebody talking to a fellow podcast about the show and getting the deep dive situation. This show though is more about, looking at the marketing, production, and those sort of areas of podcasting, whereas I will go into more depth about the subject with those people that I speak with in pods like us. They do do this to a degree on this show, but not in as much Detail as I do. Pull the curtain away, what are you doing in pods like yours is try to find out what it is the makes them do that Show and their approach to that, and what it is really that makes me interested in their shows in particular. I do do the Text side, and the other things mentioned to a degree, but I go more into the subject matter that each of those shows is about in more detail than that. I do however find the information that they get from their guest is fascinating.]

[this is an interesting show, in that it is generated through people sending in questions relating to business that the presenter Scott Galloway will then give his informed opinion about. It is clever in the fact that you have that communication between the podcast, and the listener, with that communication, and the answers are very thorough. It isn’t a long show at all, nicely within that under 25 minutes time that seems to be very popular.]

Listen for the qualities of the sound as well as the pattern. A flute-like and upward-spiraling sound is characteristic of this Swainson's Thrush. / Quite a contrast to the plaintively whistled notes of a Black-capped Chickadee. Maybe your bird has a raspy quality to its trill, like a Willow Flycatcher, while the ratchety song of a Marsh Wren cuts its way through the dense vegetation of a cattail marsh. But this Lesser Yellowlegs often carols from the top of a tall conifer in its nesting territory in Alaska. / The name "sandpiper" actually comes from the voices of these birds, rather than from their long-billed probing in the sand. While the name refers in particular to the birds' short "piped" -- or whistled -- calls, a number of sandpipers are surprisingly good singers. Learn more at BirdNote.org

Seaside Pod Review - episode 44: 7 September 2025: Kev and Brandy return to talk about all things Queen, and some things that aren’t Queen related. Brandy is in a completely different place again, this time with purple walls, befitting his regal splendour. A flying spaghetti ball in the sky. Winnipeg is good for beer. The news of Mary Austin selling items left to her by Freddie Mercury in an auction. Listener feedback. “Who contributed the most to the album The Game?” Feedback about the previous song, “Procession”/“Father To Son.” In answer to listener Rob I agree that if Randy dusts March of the Black Queen I will be displeased. Mention of the end of the podcast In The Lap of the Pods. After this, they then go onto the randomly chosen song for this episode, which is the Freddie Mercury written song, lazing on a Sunday afternoon, from the album a night at the Opera. The song is only one minute and seven seconds long. Assistant sound engineers included the great Gary Langan! The vocals were recorded by playing Freddie’s original vocal through headphones left inside a metal rubbish bin, with a microphone placed in the can get that effect. That is really cool! This song is an absolute champion to me, and I would be surprised if people thought that I would think otherwise!
BirdNote Daily - 24 May 2022: *Songbirds Teach Each Other Tricks - In the UK for years, milk came in bottles with foil caps. Great Tits, a common songbird, learned how to peck through the foil. The skill spread. But how? Researchers trained Great Tits in different ways of opening a box and rereleased them. Knowledge of how to open the box spread rapidly, with most birds copying the trained bird in their group. In a follow-up study, the researchers made one method of opening the box more effective. Many birds quickly switched to the better method, suggesting the tits can stand up to peer pressure if they see there's a better way of doing things. Learn more at BirdNote.org
