[it’s difficult to get an idea what a show is based on a single episode, but my take on this show is that the presenter of the show, the titular Lenny, has a specific way about things, that could be because of them admitting they are an introvert themselves, which is the subject of this episode. I think that means that people are very much set on specific mechanisms in social situations in a way, so with a chat show such as this, it helps to have guidelines in a sense to start from, and then from my own experience you get more comfortable because of having that. It doesn’t stop you from going into areas other than those in the list of points that you want to hit, but rather makes it more comfortable for you, so that when those times come where you can see little tangents to go off into, it’s easier to do that, because you’re more comfortable in the conversation with this person who, for the most part, you’ve never actually had any spoken or visual communication with. Maybe I’m just putting in my own experience onto Lenny, but that’s how I am, and I’m guessing that’s how he would probably get around that? It does mean, though that he will get to the point, and his own innate interest in the subject, which was why they booked these chats in the first place, shines through, giving the listener a thorough understanding of what it is that attracts Lenny himself to this.]

It spreads its wings out like it's mimicking an umbrella and waits. / Unsuspecting fish think this is shade from vegetation and a safe place to hide - and that is when the bird strikes! This pitch-black heron creates canopies in shallow open waters and seasonally flooded grasslands through Sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar. / Culturally, herons are seen as sacred messengers and symbols of prosperity and good fortune. The Black Heron is the bird chosen to represent this year's Black Birders Week, which begins today.

When they complete talking about the listener feedback, they look at the randomly chosen song for this week, I’m In Love With My Car, a Roger Taylor written and sung song from the album A Night At The Opera, which actually is the same album as the previous song, and follows that song on the album. What Roger Taylor did to ensure that the song became the B-side for Bohemian, Rhapsody. Aston Martin in the end. It’s a champion to me, despite the lyrics. I think it’s Roger having a laugh personally in lyrical terms. Brian May - “are you joking?” People do apparently actually have relationships with their vehicles! To be honest, I won’t be surprised if one of my work colleagues was exactly like that, because he cleans the vehicles, two or three, times a day! The clip that Kev has placed into this section about the bloke being almost sexual when talking about his car, just needs to be followed up with a clip of George Takei saying “oh my!” Kev asks if anyone has written a good car song. My answer is Racing In The Streets by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Anyway, your question, does Marv think the song is a champion or does it bite the dust? It is a champion to me! A giraffe sized heart discussion leads to a clip of Eddie Izzard. 

BirdNote Daily - 30 May 2022: *Spark Bird: Dara Wilson and the Blue-gray Tanager - While Dara Wilson was working at the Smithsonian's National Zoo in D.C., she introduced visitors to the Amazonia exhibit.

She would describe the song of a bird she'd never had the chance to see in the wild, the Blue-gray Tanager. But when Dara moved to Panama, she heard the song that she knew by heart already. Encountering the Blue-gray Tanager in its natural habitat inspired her to keep learning about birds — and to share that knowledge with others as an educator. Dara helps organize Black Birders Week.

BirdNote Daily - 2 June 2022: Dinosaurs in the Here and Now - In this episode, Adé Ben-Salahuddin, an evolutionary biologist in training, reflects on how his connection with birds has changed over the years. The simple fact that birds are the only living dinosaurs left was what drew him to birds for a long time. He would share that fact with visitors on guided tours of the fossil collections at his local museum. During COVID, the museum closed for renovation, so Adé began working at a warehouse instead, surrounded by the sounds of whirring machines and beeping scanners. More recently, he has been visiting a local pond that hosts many species of birds and has developed an appreciation for them as living dinosaurs.

BirdNote Daily - 3 June 2022: *Bringing Birding Adventures to Broward County - While Sierra Taliaferro was working as a Naturalists in Broward County, Florida, in 2021, she collaborated with Broward County Library to help enhance the public's knowledge about birding. More people became interested in birding as a sate outdoor activity during the pandemic. Sierra and others designed birding backpacks with field guides and binoculars that could be checked out at 10 libraries throughout the county. Sierra also gave a webinar crash course on how to find birds. The program was a success, with many people checking out the backpacks and creating their own birding adventures.

Nicole helped her mom create an account on Merlin Bird ID and document her first bird sighting.
