Composers Datebook - 8 September 2025: Bernstein's 'Mass'

TWO THOUSAND AND LATE - Season 1 Episode 1: 8 September 2025: *HOW TO PROCRASTINATE THE END OF THE WORLD - THIS IS HOW TO PROCRASTINATE THE END OF THE WORLD (otherwise known as the nine circles of hell on earth)! What do you do when you're thirty-six years old and you've been possessed by a demon and been fired from your job? You don't let the demon possessing you bring about the apocalypse like it wants to. [Wow, this is so cool and fun. Harper suddenly gets possessed by the demon Havoc on the event of her 36th birthday. Written and directed by the great Lauren Shippen, who always provides the voices for both Harper and Havoc. It does contain bad language, violence, and a kicking rock theme tune. So good that I listened to the inaugural first two episodes released on the show’s first day. I wonder what Dr Bright from Lauren’s earlier show The Bright Sessions would have made of the Harper/Havoc situation?]

TWO THOUSAND AND LATE - Season 1 Episode 2: 8 September 2025: *STEP ONE: HARASS A LANDLORD & LATE - It doesn't have to be your landlord, just a landlord. / Ideally, a guy you went to high school with who still hates your guts and is being unreasonable to your best friend from the job you no longer have. [At the end of this episode, post show music, Lauren Shippen suggests another audio drama to listen to. That is so cool, and is something that Lauren has been doing a lot of on her social media accounts. I did grab that clip, but Google says it’s too big to place here, so I’ll let you know that Lauren suggested the incredible audio drama Windfall.]

BirdNote Daily - 4 February 2023: *Birds Are Evolving Rapidly, Today - House Finches are evolving rapidly and visibly. In 1941, some captive House Finches from California escaped near NYC. They spread rapidly and are now found across most of the US. We know the finches have evolved, because those that survive differ from their parents. Size is one example. Male House Finches in recently established populations are larger than the males that escaped. Females have become smaller and survive better than larger females as nestlings. Evolutionary changes are occurring visibly all around us.
