Camp invites us all to pursue goodness and light in spite of the darkness around us. Lee talks to Joy Harjo, former U.S. Poet Laureate, who draws from Indigenous traditions and her own work to show poetry as survival, witness, and a guide to community; Haleh Liza Gafori, a poet, musician, and acclaimed translator of Rumi, who brings the ecstatic vision of a 13th-century mystic into our anxious, divided age; and Pádraig Ó Tuama, poet, theologian, and host of the Poetry Unbound podcast, who reveals how poetry can be both prayer and protest, holding grief and healing together.

Socially dominant birds stay lean (and agile at avoiding predators) during the day, and then stoke up later, before a cold night. Subordinate birds have to look for food whenever and wherever they can find it, and carry fat on their bodies to hedge against unpredictable rations.

New Podcasts - 20 October 2025: *The Devil You Know with Sarah Marshall - In the 1980s and 90s, Satan and his followers were accused of brainwashing children, sacrificing babies, and infiltrating North American society on a massive scale — yet these thousands of alleged Satanists were nowhere to be found. In The Devil You Know with Sarah Marshall, explore the tangled web of the Satanic Panic: the believers, the skeptics, the bystanders, and the wrongfully-convicted. The stories of these eyewitnesses point us toward the real underlying problems: was the fault with Satanists? Or ourselves?

Ghost: Scary Stories for Halloween - 20 October 2025: *The October Records Episode 20: The Hunter - Jacob Mitchell has been hunting something through the woods for three days, following black sap and boiling footprints, not realizing he's being herded while the forest itself remembers being lake bottom. Aaron Mitchell, stretched with extra joints and extending thirty feet tall, leads Margaret to his grandfather's body from 1974-transformed into a living tree with transparent bark showing working organs, growing cocoons that birth dozens of wrong versions of Margaret with antlers, compound eyes, and backward torsos. / The Mitchells aren't hunters but living webs strung through the canopy, while the Margaret-things reveal "it" isn't a creature but the relationship between predator and prey-the moment of the pounce itself. Twenty more malformed Margarets wait at the library, explaining they'll watch her die on Halloween then eat each other until only one perfect version remains. The forest keeps rearranging itself as Aaron's body weaves through the trees like a spider, telling Margaret she's both hunter and hunted, chasing herself through time while already caught in the web.

Dashing headlong across the canyon toward an unyielding wall, the birds disappear at the last second into a slender crevice. This swift is aptly named - and doubly so. The White-throated Swift is among the fastest of all birds. And its lyrical, scientific name suits it perfectly: Aeronautes saxatalis - sailor of the air who dwells in the rocks.

Seaside Pod Review - episode 63: 11 January 2024: first up Kev and Randy have some catch up chat. They point out that the recording this earlier in the day than they would usually, because of it being Randy‘s son’s 21st birthday. Happy birthday to young Mr Woods. Podcast beef. After the chat they look at feedback from listeners about the previous weeks random episode, which was the Roger Taylor written song ride the wild wind. I had to listen to this, because I wanted to find out what the feedback would be like, and if there was anything else from it, such as the version with the drums, or the Roger Taylor demo. Kev mentioned the film the sandlot, which I have never seen. Was it shown in the UK? I suppose that if Kev has seen it then it must’ve been? “Another one bites the silica gel!” “A turd that’s been polished!” After this they go onto this week’s randomly chosen song, the Freddie Mercury written song Keep Passing The Open Windows from the album The Works. Recorded at the record plan in New York and Music land Studios in Munich. Apparently Britain originally for a film called the Hotel New Hampshire. It was slightly tweaked after this song wasn’t used in the film.

BirdNote Daily - 25 April 2023: *A Lost Hummingbird is Found Again - The Santa Marta Sabrewing is a hummingbird species so rare, they've only been documented twice in recent years. Native to the mountains of Colombia, they were officially described in 1946. No one reported another sighting until 2010. They became a "lost" species, eluding every attempt to find them. Then in 2022, Yurgen Vega was studying the birds of a mountain range called the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. He snapped a photo of an unusual, large hummingbird - and the sabrewing was lost no more.
