Sheer Pod Attack: A Queen Song-By-Song Podcast - 5 June 2026: S2 E5: *Loser in the End (1974) - In this gritty, drum-driven deep dive, Sheer Pod Attack turns its spotlight on one of Queen's most overlooked early-era gems: "The Loser in the End." Often overshadowed by the grand theatrics of Queen Il, this Roger Taylor-penned track hits with a rawness that slices straight through the album's fantasy-laden fog. / The episode unpacks the song's thunderous percussion, snarling vocal delivery, and the surprisingly grounded social commentary hiding beneath the surface. The hosts explore how Taylor's writing breaks from the band's mythic tendencies to deliver a blunt, street-level story about generational tension, emotional labor, and the unglamorous realities of growing up. / Expect spirited debate, archival anecdotes, and a forensic breakdown of how the track's stripped-back production still manages to feel massive. The team also digs into why this song-despite its power-rarely makes it into fan conversations, and what it reveals about Queen's evolving identity in the early 1970s. / By the end, listeners may find themselves rethinking the track entirely, hearing it not as a footnote on a legendary album but as a fierce, human heartbeat pulsing beneath Queen's early bombast.

B2B Podcasting Insights - 22 May 2026: Episode 34: *I did NOT see this coming - a surprising benefit of attending The Podcast Show 2026 - Yes, I attended The Podcast Show. Yes I had both good and bad things to say. (One of those things is pasted below from my LinkedIn) / But through it all, there was one super surprising benefit I discovered from going to The Podcast Show 2026. I really did NOT see this coming. - The Podcast Show 2026 was ultimately epic. / Let me go deeper, fam. Let's slide through the obvious stuff like the wonderful sense of community and camaraderie that exists among the many strangers and even those who are technically 'competitors'. This is one of my favourite things about the show. 10/10 — no notes. I'm going to say that I'm blown away by how seriously the event organisers take this show, and they only ever want to make it better each year. I also thoroughly enjoyed some of the perspectives from the stages. It wasn't a total pitchfest. And if anybody tried to schill their warez, the moderators did a fab job of keeping them back on point. (I felt for Katie Prescott from The Times who had the misfortune of moderating a panel with podcasting's perniciousness incarnate, Jeanine Wright. I mean, the tech ops had to actually resort to drowning her out with music to stop her in her delusional verbal tracks.) I won't say any more on that talk other than to acknowlege the loud and passionate criticisms from the baying audience which reassured my weeping heart. / But there were a couple of negatives and it would be off-brand for me not to mention 'em. With iteration, someone, somewhere, is always going to be left slightly disappointed while others benefit. We see this in podcast production all the time - we make a tweak to improve content such as adding sound design or introducing structure, and there will always be someone who hates the new sound because it's no longer what they became comfortable with. So I accept that some of the things that I didn't enjoy as much are a subjective thing. Gone was the business stage - clearly didn't get the bums on seats last year - and so a big reason I enjoyed the event last year was disappeared. We move past that. It's one of those things. I also felt sad at how some of the people hosting talks clearly didn't know their audience. An example of this was a chat about the benefits of immersive sound design that was schilling Dolby as a tool. Now I'm not the biggest technical nerd in this space, but I'm pretty sure none of the podcast apps offer passthru of that standard I, so that was a fairly pointless 25 minutes for anyone NOT considering running an audiobook on Audible. My biggest WTF moment was the one pictured. Head honcho from YouTube grabs three creatives who have seen success putting their podcasts on the platform. I'll say this, if a head of content can't project manage success in video podcasting at... well... The Guardian... then l'd have expected them to quit being in charge of content immediately, because it would suggest an incompetency problem. There we no receipts of before YouTube and after YouTube. / Just a whole lot of 'trust me bro, we know what we're talking about' which too many lazy last-minute panellists tend to lean on. To be clear, this is a criticism of the individual speakers, NOT the event itself. In old money, definitely still a A+ event. Well done to all the team.

Deleted Saves - 18 February 2026: *Return to the NES #2: What Was I Thinking Edition - A Retrospective Review - We don't always make great choices when we get games, dear listeners. Great merchandising, hype cycles, allusions to other properties we do like, and clever marketing can all feed into trying to gloss over a sub-par title and get us to buy into it. That's the point, after all. Best understand that once in a while you'll pick up a bad game and not realize it until you are already playing it. On this episode, part two of three, I go back to the NES for some games that weren't very good but were not bad enough for a verbal takedown elsewhere. Maybe they are your favorites, but they certainly aren't mine. Give it a listen, and let's commiserate.

In this episode of Into The Podverse, host Tony Doe sits down with Tobiloba, the founder of Autrans, to discuss the creation of an Al transcription tool built specifically for African voices. / Tobiloba reveals the frustration of using mainstream tools that "flinch" at Nigerian accents or "correct" meaningful local slang into stiff, incorrect English. He explains how Autrans was designed from the ground up to handle code-switching, the natural way we switch between English, Pidgin, Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo mid-sentence.
Soundtracking with Edith Bowman - Episode 19: 9 December 2016: *Sean Ellis Reveals All About The Music In His Films, Including Metro Manila And Anthropoid - Having earned an Oscar nomination for his short film Cashback in 2004, British director Sean Ellis has since caught the eye with a stylistic approach that is urgent, visceral, and intense. With the help of composers Guy Farley and Robin Foster, he's delivered soundscapes to match. / Following its run at the Oscar, Sean developed Cashback into a full-length feature before bringing us Anglo-French horror The Broken, both of which were scored by Guy. / Then came the Philippine-set crime drama Metro Manila, which won numerous awards. / His latest project is Anthropoid, which tells the true story of an unlikely assassination attempt on Hitler's second in command Reinhard Heydric - the so-called Butcher of Prague / For these two most recent ventures, Sean predominantly collaborated with Robin, who we must thank profusely for his assistance in putting this episode together. Apart from anything else, we'd have struggled to identify the specific Bartok violin sonata that features in a key scene in Anthropoid without him! / Interestingly, though, that sonata is one of the few cues in the film that's relevant to 1940s Prague, with Sean and Robin instead settling on a dark electronic score to evoke the all-pervasive atmosphere of paranoia that came with the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia.
