Comicbook Nation - season 6 episode 37: 13 September 2024: wakey wakey, Kofi, lol. The time of the show has changed to early morning as opposed to around midday in the good old US of A. Presented by Kofi, Matt and Janell. Spider-Man four is a go with Tom Holland, returning as the title character, and the director announced as Dustin Daniel Creton, who directed Shang Chi. Venom 3 trailer 3. During this segment, because people are asking in the show live online chat, they touched the subject of the podcast Phase Zero, to say that they have no idea what is happening with that show. I’m glad that they did that because I wasn’t sure whether it had finished or not personally. I think it will be difficult with the fact that the company have lost two of the four presenters? “Has Matt Aguilar taken over the world or something?” King In Black. The Noel of it all! Marvel with an asterisk! The Penguin television series. Evan Valentine joins them after a break to talk about the new film Transformers 1. Speak No Evil remake. Garrison Keillor’s podcast - 4 May 2024: *Singing to the Lord to save Herschel - So what happened to joke-telling?For one thing, some of the best jokes are about death. The old Republican is dying and tells his wife, “I’m going to switch parties because I’d rather it happen to a Democrat than to one of us.” These are maybe less funny when you get to be my age. For another thing, a politician came along in 2015 who isn’t funny. This was a first. There were dozens of George Bush jokes and Bill Clinton jokes but with this guy, late-night comics deliver very clever insults but nobody laughs.I’m not giving up. I was on the phone with a pal who’s in chemo and we spent 58 minutes telling jokes back and forth, including the one about the priest asking the widow, “Did your husband have any last request?” and she said, “Yes, he asked me to put down the gun.” The pal laughed so hard she almost split a seam. Later she called me back to tell me one more. Herschel was swept out to sea by a tidal wave and Mama cried out, “God, you can’t do that to my boy! Bring him back!” and another wave washes Herschel back and Mama cries, “Thank you, God” and then looks at Herschel and looks up at the sky — “He was wearing a hat!” I’ve heard that joke many times and I’m starting to get it. A guy needs a hat.

Consider This - 13 September 2024: *NASA prepares to head back to the moon - This time next year, if everything stays on schedule, NASA will send its first crewed mission to the moon, since the end of the Apollo program. Artemis II will be the first flight around the moon in more than 50 years. / Its goal will be to test out the Orion capsule and all the other equipment, so that by 2026, Artemis III can put astronauts back ON the moon. / The Artemis program is aimed to kickstart a new, more enduring era of space travel that leads to Mars. It's also intentionally more representative than Apollo was. The Artemis program will eventually put the first woman on the moon, as well as the first person of color. / It's all as historic and high stakes as it gets, and also pretty daunting. / NPR's Scott Detrow goes behind the scenes at the Johnson Space Center in Houston to see how the team is preparing.

Questions But No Answers - episode 2: 15 January 2024: *Propinquity - Use two four-syllable words that each contain a "q" in a sentence. Oh, that's easy. Ready?

Michael Nesmith's composition "Propinquity" is one of the most ubiquitous in his catalog.  / How ubiquitous? There are three studio versions, five live versions and many cover versions. I don't cover them all in this episode but I do my best to play and discuss most of them. The first version of it that I ever heard gave me a very misguided picture of what Nez's solo career was all about. / Propinquity was one of Nesmith's earliest compositions as well as one of the first (of many) to which he gave a title that never appears in the song's lyrics. Though one seldom finds quotes by any of Nez's contemporaries singing his praises as a songwriter, I also briefly bring up two artists who put out well-known songs in the early/mid 70's that to my ears might owe a little something to Propinquity. But I'll never know for sure, because this is Questions But No Answers. This one is for those of you who wrote and told me that 30 minute episodes are too short.
