The Pod Files - Friday 29 March 2024

Is it a Good Friday? Hmm, a jackpot lottery win and giving up work would make it a fricking Great Friday!

Alternatively, more people subscribing to the Pods Like Us Patreon page for one pound per month would be a wonderful alternative - https://www.patreon.com/podslikeus/

Until then, we will carry on regardless! #TheyDontLikeItUpEm

Anyway, enough of that shit! You’ve come ‘ere for the pod notes, not for Marv’s neuroses and other crap!

The ‘casts -

(Notes spoken to Siri, and edited later if I remember

Electronically Yours - 29 March 2024: part two of Martyn’s chat with the great Robert Fripp. A must listen for this King Crimson fan, as well as his other great work such as the solo project Exposure, his work with Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, Andy Summers, and so much more. I love how he explains songwriting with the example of Larks tongue in aspic part two. That is a favourite of mine, and I particularly liked when he was essentially singing the opening rhythm to G 11.

Tony Lerin was Sue taught at school, and conducted in the orchestra at school by Stravinsky! The book Sacred Geometry by Richard Heath. The documentary about King Crimson. “Breathtakingly arrogant.” His working and personal relationship with Brian Eno. Says that Brian can do more with few notes than most serious musicians can with many. Working with David Bowie. Tony Visconti quote. Scary Monsters and Super Creeps sessions. Earth magic. Les Paul guitars. Thumb jam. Thank you to Martin for this fantastic episode, where it’s just full of pure gold!

Lowlines is a new, independent, podcast launching today. After food entrepreneur Petra Barran left the grind of the business hustle, she bought a sound recorder and set off without an itinerary to record a podcast with no script, no studio and no production team. The resulting bank of tape was raw, real and revealing about what it means to connect to the ground beneath our feet. [I will actually respond to this trailer by saying that it sounds interesting, but at a little over two minutes, it might just be me, but the trailer drags for about 30 seconds longer than it could be. It sounds like it’s potentially a well researched program that has good production values though.]

Darci Lynne is out on tour now and she goes Beyond the Mic with Sean Dillon. I've had great interview opportunities over my 25+ year radio history that never made it to air. Some were due to length others were because of topic. I decided to flip the table on the rules. Any topic / guest is welcome, but you need to tell a story & must go "Beyond the Mic."
