Sunday May the 23rd, 2021 -  The blurb - I woke up at around three in the afternoon, after more difficulty falling asleep. Pods Like Us is returning on May 29th (next Sunday), and I’ve got the first two episodes to their initial first edit, where I take out some bits, and now my next job is to listen to them as they are to then edit if necessary where it may not flow. There isn’t long to get it done... I was hoping that I would have at least the first six shows completely edited before next Sunday, so that I would be ahead of the curve. Luckily though I am recording the tenth episode for season three on Tuesday, which is a great position to be in.  A young common newt at Elston Mind you, I had about that many ready for season one and still ended up worrying because of episodes being postponed and it getting close to the wire.  Luckily I haven’t had a case of not having an episode to put out during season time though. As a bit of a tease I will say that I am carryin...

Saturday May the 22nd, 2021 -  The blurb - It took me an age to get to sleep after getting in from work, because I had things on my mind. Woke up, had breakfast and a cuppa, and then went to the supermarket further away, because I needed some black cargo pants for work. I was so rushed through the self service counter, that I forgot to get the security tag removed.  I still wore them for work, luckily with my uniformed fleece covering the offending item. Had an alarm on a site, but it was a relatively easy and quick job - spider on another sensor. Usual! I messed up during the shift by forgetting to do screen grabs of my listening, so had to grab them later to get the pictures! That’s why the posts about my listening up on the Pods Like Us Instagram page went up the way that they did! Once more the podcast listening didn’t go to plan, but they were a lot of fun. Saturday May the 22nd, 2021 - The ‘casts - Robby The Robot’s Waiting  - (1:43) E17: a lost episode is fo...

Friday May 21st 2021 -  The blurb - Got into bed at about 9 o’clock after getting in from work at about half past eight.  Woke up at a quarter past three, breakfast, coffee, 15 minutes of editing time, out to pick something up, got ready, went to work. Nothing happened other than the regular run. Got home at 7am. Podcast listening wasn’t as originally intended, but fun. Friday May 21st 2021 - The ‘casts - Beatles Books -  Joe Wisbey chats with author/writer/publisher and co-host of the podcast Blacklisted, John Mitchinson, about The Beatles Anthology, one of my favourite Beatles related books going. A very authorised picture of the story of the band.  Random Trek -  Scott chats with journalist, editor, and co-host of the podcast Robby The Robot’s Waiting, Dave Bradley, who was also a past editor of SFX magazine, which I’ve read every issue of since its inception now over 25 years ago! This time they are talking about the Star Tek: Enterprise episode Fifht...

Was That Me?

Friday May 21st 2021 17:30hrs BST So after getting to bed a little before ninety the morning and going to sleep a little later, I woke up at a quarter past three in the afternoon, still pissed off with myself that I had gone off on one at work. It’s getting to me that I think I’ve been affected by the lockdown as well to some degree, even though I have been going out to work constantly. On my days off I don’t seem to be able to do anything. I keep thinking “what’s the point?”    It’s not like we can do much of anything anyway, and I’m so used to being in bed all day and up all through the night for work five nights a week, that I’m used to those hours. It will never change, and why should it?  I was a terrible kid, and what’s happened is more than I deserve for that kid that I was. I’m lucky to have what I have in life.  If I think back to that kid, it’s like someone I’m looking back at him as though it wasn’t me, although in some ways I wish that I could be a bit mo...

Thursday May 20th 2021 -  The blurb - So, work on Thursday night was pretty quiet and dragged like hell! I don’t know why I only got through these shows and no more...   I meant to get through more, but it just wasn’t to be. I really want to listen to more shows, because I feel as though I’m letting people down, and myself as well. The shows I listened to where all great though! I don’t know why I took so much offence at something at work.    It was pointed out to me that Andy being off next week meant that another driver would be on the other run next Thursday and Friday. Normally it would be seen as I take on their role for the higher pay more high profile responsibility position, which is the same one that I normally do every Saturday and Sunday. However, that’s not how it’s been rostered, and for some reason I saw it as a slight against me. It wasn’t of course, but I just let it all stew within. Hopefully I won’t get into too much trouble for losing m...

Tuesday and Wednesday off again

Let’s see if I can do a quick post then, eh?... Didn’t get to bed until about ten o’clock, and set an alarm for 1pm, 1:30pm, and 2pm... Every time I switched them off and fell back to sleep, waking up at about 4 o’clock! I had a show to record at 6! Quickly got drinks and something to eat, before getting ready. I was chatting with my friend Dean Leivers about his love of listening to podcasts, and a fair bit of the chat was actually catching up... We were both musicians in different bands back in the day, and I’ve recorded music with Dean before.  He’s the vocalist on the version of Paul McCartney’s song Junk that was used on an episode of the podcast When They Was Fab. I’m not sure what we watched that night, but we got to bed very late (7am I think), and woke up at a quarter past ten. I put on the radio for the Pop Master quiz on BBC Radio Two with the dependable Ken Bruce at the helm! Louise keeps saying that I should go on there, but it’s easier to do these things listening as...

Monday May 17th 2021 -  The blurb - Got to bed a little after eight, and was awoken at half past eleven by the doorbell. I got dressed and went downstairs... No one there, but I did see the landlord down the road and thought “I bet it’s him!” He’s irritating in that he usually likes to just show up without any warning whatsoever. They’re not supposed to do that, but are actually supposed to let you know beforehand that they are coming around. I made sure that they didn’t see me, went back in, and it took me over an hour to get back to sleep.    Thanks Eddie! I woke up with the alarm at four o’clock, at which point I got the previous blog post sorted. About 40 minutes into the shift at work I decided I would listen to some music, because commenting on podcasts seems to be slowing me down at work. First up was the derided third album by Rush, Caress Of Steel.  I got in for around half past eight, and in bed a little after half past nine in the morning. EDIT - it...
